Description

This is a fantastic hike that takes you well off the tourist trails as you leave the Sacred Valley of the Incas and continue into the next valley, the Lares Valley. Crossing these mountains you can enjoy spectacular Andean scenery, including lakes and wildlife, as well as visiting traditional Andean villages. Many of these people still dress in typical clothing and can be seen far off in the distance in their red and black clothing as they tend their sheep or llamas. With this itinerary you have the option of returning to Cusco at the end of day four or continuing on to Machu Picchu to visit this famous Inca city.

Itinerary

You will be transferred very early either from Cusco or Ollantaytambo to Calca, during the transfer you will pass through the highest point of the tour with a height of 4265 meters above sea level, at this point it will be possible to see the beautiful mountains of Sawasiray and Pitusiray, and then descend to the warm valley of Lares at an altitude of 3207 meters above sea level. Lares is a typical colonial town with a church, a main square and narrow streets. It is in Lares where we will meet your porters, have lunch and start your great adventure on your "Lares Trek". Our path ascends through the community of Huacawasi (first camp), located at 3600 meters above sea level. Huacawasi is a small and charming community with small houses built of adobe and thatch. We will walk approximately 2 to 3 hours over a distance of 6 to 7 kilometers.

After a nutritious breakfast, we will leave our camp at 8:00 am towards the pass of Huahuqasa (4500 meters) highest point of our trek, we continue our journey to the lagoons of Aruraycocha and Yuracocha, which were formed from the deglaciation of the snow-capped mountains of Pumahuanca and Kiswarani. Very close to the lakes we will enjoy a delicious lunch. Day 2 of our adventure is the most spectacular day because with a little luck we will be able to see Condors and many varieties of birds typical of the Andes. Our second camp is located 1 hour and 30 minutes from the place of lunch, near the town of Mantanay located at 3800 meters above sea level. We will walk approximately 8 to 9 hours over a distance of 10 kilometers.

After a pleasant night we will be ready to start our third day of trekking towards Yanahuara (2950m.a.s.l.) a beautiful village with a very pleasant climate, located in the Urubamba Valley, the sacred valley of the Incas, the great supplier of food products of Cusco, with its vast fields of corn. The big grain corn, well known and admired all over the world, is produced in our Urubamba Valley. Upon arrival in Yanahuara we will be picked up by a tourist bus and taken to Ollantaytambo, where we will make a short stop at the Miski Unu Restaurant to enjoy lunch. Then we will take the train to the lost city of Machu Picchu.

Visit to Machu Picchu all day.

Very early we will get up to visit "the lost city" of Machu Picchu before the other tourists arrive with the morning train from Cusco or those tourists who did the Inca Trail. Sitting at the top of the steps, we will have a spectacular view of this new wonder of the world, surrounded by a cloud forest and the mighty Urubamba River. Machu Picchu was covered by dense vegetation until the historian Hiram Bingham began to clear the site. During many years the city was rebuilt and if it lost some of its mystery it still maintains an unforgettable view. Our tour includes a visit to the temples, plazas, palaces, residential areas and we will give you time to explore the ruins on your own.

In the afternoon: Return to Cusco by train and transfer to your hotel.
