After breakfast at the hotel in Cusco you will transfer to the train station of Poroy or Ollantaytambo by bus and then take a train up to the hidden temple of the Incas: Machu Picchu. The train ride is an attraction in itself because of the great part of the ride winds along the river and mountain face with spectacular views of the Andes as you pass through abundant cloud forests. The foliage changes dramatically as you ride towards the meeting point of the Andes and Amazon rainforest, providing a real sense of how much this country has to offer visitors.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will either contact our staff or take a bus directly to the ruins of Machu Picchu or to your very comfortable hotel if you have decided to spend the night in the area. Then, you will leave this small village and take approximately 20 minutes by bus to the Machu Picchu ruins hidden perched on the mountain above.
Once you arrive at Machu Picchu, you will begin a guided tour of this wonder of the world. If you decide to spend the night in this area (highly recommended) you will have another opportunity to visit the ruins early the next day. After your tour you can walk the many Inca trails that lead to the main site. Should you decide to spend the night in Aguas Calientes, you can use the afternoon to relax in the nearby hot springs. Otherwise you will return to the station in the mid-afternoon for the train back to Cusco and transfer to your hotel.
