This place was dedicated to the carving and extraction of the stones that were used for the construction of Ollantaytambo and many surrounding enclosures. This place is located nine kilometers from the Inca town of Ollantaytambo and has three groups of quarries: Molle Pucro, Sirkusirkuyoc (was the largest of the three), shows evidence of having been in full operation when the Spanish entered this area. And finally Kantirayoq or Cacchicata, where another type of extraction of minerals and precious stones was practiced. The visitor will be able to observe the great work done at the time of moving the gigantic stones to build the enclosures of Ollantaytambo. We can find the so-called "Tired Stones" that remained during the journey to Ollantaytambo and in some parts of the town.
Visit sustainable development projects
Starting the hike at the Inca Bridge, arriving at the entrance of the town of Ollantaytambo, we will cross the Vilcanota River and follow it to reach Choquekillca, the place of veneration of the Lord of Choquekillca. Then we will continue along the Inca Trail of CAPAC ÑAN, along the routes that in the past were used to transport the stones. At the edge of the route, we can see some of the TIRED STONES that have been affected by thunder, lightning and the force of the wind, and that seem to have rested in the same place since they were left by Inca hands. From there, we will follow the trail of the tired stones to reach Simapucyo, a sector with very well preserved Inca terraces. Then we will begin our accent towards the TAMBOCCASA viewpoint (2820 masl.), where we will enjoy a panoramic view of the valley and the pyramid of Paqaritampu. Then, we will descend to Cachiccata where we will visit the community school. Here we will have the opportunity to participate in an intercultural exchange with the children; understand the world from a current perspective and see the practices of the community from grandparents to grandchildren. As part of this experience, the children will speak to us in their native language, QUECHUA, and perform a folkloric dance demonstrating their daily customs. Afterwards, we will also show and teach part of our culture to the children. After lunch, we will be able to visit sustainable development projects in the community, accompanied by the people in charge. Overnight at the Cachiccata camp, "Las Chullpas de Cachiccata".
